Health Benefits Of Ginger

Ginger is an aromatic root native to South East Asia and is one of the ingredients found in our lemon twist juice drink.

For thousands of years it has been valued for it's medicinal properties and with good reason.  Traditionally, it has been used for treatment of gastrointestinal distresses.  One reason ginger is effective for treating these particular problems because ginger is a carminative.  A carminative is classified as a substance that  soothes the gut relieving flatulence and digestive pain- garlic and fennel are also examples of herbal carminatives.  Ginger can be used as a treatment for nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy, motion sickness.  Ginger affects the gastrointestinal tract and slows the feedback interaction between the stomach and the nausea center in the brain by absorbing and neutralizing gastrointestinal hormones, toxins and acids.

It is often used in tea for the treatment of cold, flu and fever along with lemon and honey.  The reason this is proven to be effective because ginger is whats known as a "warming herb", meaning it encourages perspiration and is also a natural decongestant and antihistamine.

If you feel like something warm on a cold February day why not try this Carrot Ginger Soup or White Miso Ginger Soup?
