To Get a Bridal Body, You Don't Mess Around

We all want to look and feel our best every day, but there's one in particular that's worth extra work-outs and careful eating: Wedding day. "Brides are getting ready for the most incredible day of their life and so my approach with them is let's work really hard," says Sarah Wragge, holistic nutritionist, wellness expert (and Living Juice fan!), and founder of Wraggemamma. "You're going to be looking at those pictures for a very long time!”

Wraggemamma offers programs for health and wellness geared towards people who want to jump-start a healthy lifestyle with a cleanse,  or explore the whole foods lifestyle, or make healthier choices in the grocery aisle (“if you can’t pronounce it, don’t buy it!”). Then there’s Sarah's customized “Bridal Body” program, aimed at making women feel and look "centered, present, and picture perfect” on their special day. “The Bridal Body program is one of my more intense programs,” says Sarah. “Unlike my other programs that are a gradual build and focus on a lifestyle change that is sustainable, this program is more of a sprint. We look at the time we have to accomplish our goals and we work together to be consistent and regimented with food and exercise. Consistency wins, bottom line.”

Aside from the fact that brides come in all (beautiful!) shapes and sizes, how do their needs differ? “Brides’ needs differ because they have to focus and get results FAST,” notes Sarah. “We don't have time to mess around and so this program is all about efficiency. This is the one time in their life that it's okay to have it be all about them!"

And when you want results fast, a cold-pressed juice regimen fits the bill. Sarah incorporates one into the middle or the end of her bridal programs. “We will clean up the food first, then incorporate a fitness regimen and then move into a cleanse,” she says.  “In order to set my clients up for success, we have to go in stages otherwise too much all at once will be overwhelming and not sustainable.”

Sarah says preparing for her own wedding was one of the best times in her life- and it was all about having a plan. “I was incredibly focused and I got extraordinary results,” she says. “I love to challenge myself to see how far I can go and so I took this opportunity to do just that. I exercised between 6 and 7 times a week, sometimes for 2 hours a day. I did a lot of 6am workouts.” As for food, “I focused on vegetables, lean meats and tons of water. I cut out all the alcohol and all the sugar. For sleep - I hit the pillow between 9:30 and 10 every night.  I can truly say I never felt better in my life.”

Sarah offers three pieces of advice for women in bridal mode:

  1. “Be selfish and be okay with having it be all about you.”
  2. “Enjoy your partner during this very special time in your life. Stick together as there will be a lot of interference from the outside world.”
  3. “Don't listen to anyone's opinions! Stay true to yourself.”
